The Fort Smith Mayors Prayer Breakfast is an annual event in the River Valley that honors the public and military officials and authorities who lead, protect, and govern our local communities. It is the oldest event of its kind in the State of Arkansas and one of the oldest in the country.
"Governor David Beasley is a former Governor of South Carolina and former Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme, where he led the organization’s global efforts to fight hunger and famine around the world. During his tenure, the World Food Programme provided food assistance to more than 100 million people each year, and in 2022 alone reached approximately 160 million people in more than 120 countries.
Under his leadership, the World Food Programme was awarded the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize for its work serving vulnerable communities in some of the world’s most difficult places.
Throughout his career, Governor Beasley has been known for bringing people together across political, cultural, and religious lines to respond to human suffering with courage, compassion, and practical action. He has worked alongside world leaders, faith communities, businesses, and humanitarian organizations to address food insecurity, conflict, and poverty around the globe.
