Steve Gilkenson-Executive Coach and Mentor

Steve Gilkenson grew up in a small mill town in New England. His first job was as a newspaper reporter.  He would ultimately become the paper’s entertainment editor, traveling frequently to New York and Hollywood to interview movie and TV personalities. Moving to NYC for a job as a magazine editor in his late 20s, he would soon become editor and publisher of a new publication the company launched. In subsequent years, he was involved in magazine start-ups and, in his early 40s, was group publisher of five business newsmagazines. Then, on an April afternoon in 1988, his life unraveled.  A debilitating illness ended his career. But the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had something of greater promise and purpose ahead.

Steve shares a faith journey of almost 40 years, including 15 years as a chaplain at a rescue mission in Manhattan. The mission was located in the shadow of the World Trade Center, and on 9/11, he was at the scene and watched as desperate souls jumped from the Towers. For months after, he ministered to first responders, as well as grieving friends and family of loved ones who had disappeared that day.

Steve and his wife, Francine, live on Singer Island.  Their lives are enriched by two children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
