Dr. Michael Kolta-Associate Professor of Computer Science at Palm Beach Atlantic University

Dr. Kolta has over 25 years of teaching experience in higher education, including teaching students how to create Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems from scratch. 

He earned an MS and PhD in Computer Science in 2007 and 2009 respectively, and both heavily involve the creation of novel AI systems.  His doctoral dissertation is entitled “Machine Learned Melody Matching using Strictly Relative Musical Abstractions.” earned him a software patent in 2011 with over thirty claims all based on his unique melody-based search engine that employs AI to improve the effectiveness of the melody-based searches.

Dr. Kolta is passionate about the ethics of AI and his first book on the topic “Christian Ethics in Computers, Software, and Artificial Intelligence” was released in January of 2025.

He is currently serving as an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Palm Beach Atlantic University. 

Outside of his scholarly achievements, Dr. Kolta is a keyboard player and drummer who enjoys composing original songs. He is blessed to be married to Lisa and they are parents of three beautiful children. He enjoys weight lifting, biking, paddle-boarding, and spending time with family, especially at the beach or a theme park.
